Families of Children with Cancer

  • Assistance with gas, rent, mortgage, food, utilities, prescriptions, car repairs, etc.

  • 2010  Assisted 17 families NE District Optimist assisted with matching grants for some families
  • 13 families from Nebraska & 4 families from Iowa 2010

  • 45 families - 2014 with a total of $34,000 (some families twice a year)
  •  Request continue to come in for 2015 - please help us assist these families.

Children's Hospital and Medical Center Pediatric Oncology Department

  • Sponsor New Pediatric Oncology Playroom ($10,000 Pledge - $2,000 for five years)
  • 2009 - $2,300 plus Pledge Payment
  • 2010 - $3,000 plus Pledge Payment
  • 2014 - $4.000
  • 2015 - $5,000

  • Manpower and Financial Assistance with Candlelighters Christmas Party/Spring Fling


Nebraska Medicine Pediatric Oncology Department

  • Monies used to purchased packets to give to every newly diagnosed child includes journals, information on their cancer and treatments, and items for their hospital stay.


Camp Quality of the Heartland

  • Camp that allows the cancer patient and their siblings to be children for one week at camp and parents time to reconnect
  • Each camper has an adult companion
  • All campers attend at no charge
  • 2009 - $3,800

  • 2014 - $4,500
  • 2015 - $5,000
  • Annualy for the past 11 years, MAYF & NE District Optimists have provided the banquet cooked/served on the last night of camp before their dance party.


Camp CoHoLo (Courage, Hope & Love)

  • Camp that allows a child with cancer to experience camping and all the fun associated
